New crew

Mum = blue
Sarah = green

Today there were 2 pupils on our Home Education trip. Ellen joined us as her school had a training day. We walked up the canal towards Kingsbury Water Park, near Sutton Coldfield. We were looking for our friends Ann-Marie and Dave on their boat, Legend.

today we had a picnic in the bird hide. The big black bird is a Cormorant. Its wings act like a solar panel

First milestone

"Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want".
Yesterday was wet and windy. We had planned a 2 mile walk along the canal, and back on the railway walk finishing at the tearoom. I suggested to Sarah that she put on her waterproof trousers. They were uncomfortable over her skirt, but she wouldn't change into leggings, so we had the choice of staying in, or going out as we were. We went out.
After about half a mile of rain and wind, Sarah decided that we should go back, without going to the tearoom, because she'd made a bad choice in the clothing department.

Today was a bit special because our first half tern of home education finished so quickly. I feel so happy'
Ellen's first half-term has finished today so we're done too. Although, we're not really, we'll just carry on as normal and Rachel and Ellen can join us in Home Education for a week.
So we went on a bike ride.

We rode to Cupcake Lane and had a cakepop.

I also went on the swing.
it was so much fun.

I  love  my lemon cake
Sarah's first 100% independent cake. I got banned from the kitchen. She weighed out all the ingredients herself, mixed it all, put it in the oven, fetched it out, iced it. She's not 100% eating it. It's too nice.

In search of a vegetable patch

Sarah Green
Mum Blue
Me and Petal did some gardening.
Our aim for today was to find 2 trees hidden in the weeds.

Cut some weeds.

Here are some potatoes WARNING: If they are green don,t eat them they are poisonous
Proof that we had a vegetable patch here 3 years ago. We also started a Playgroup/Nursery 3 years ago. Guess which one won?

yummy apples.
Found the first tree!!
Worm slipped out of my hands.
But we know what to do with that....

Chickens: yum.
Aurora looked keenest, but Flora won, only to have Persephone steal it from her beak.
All tidy.
Well, it's better than when we started! I think there's a few more hours work in there yet.

Beautiful Dovedale

Monday 13th October arrived at Ilam Country Park at 12 noon.
First stop, Ilam church.

Look, Year 4! This is where you will be staying. It is just at the bottom of our driveway.
Here we are in the middle of Ilam, about to set off on our 5 mile walk to the Stepping Stones.
Through a squeeze stile.

Having a rest and a bite to eat by the River Dove
And trying out the stepping stones for size. Great fun!

Mind how you go...
Not a bad place to stay for a couple of nights: Ilam Youth Hostel
Our front door
Our garden
We liked this poem in the NT Manifold tearoom

We rode part of the Tissington trail
Sometimes we sat down. Sometimes we did it on purpose.
View from the Tissington Trail
Here is Rosy outside Edward & Vintage sweet shop in Tissington. Lovely shop. We spent some money there.
Front entrance to Tissington Hall
Back at Ilam, testing out their hills.
This is a weir. We saw a few.
Great place to eat a sherbet dip dab. Better than on the youth hostel carpet.
Year 4, you must get your teachers to take you to Hinckley Hollow. It's on the same site and it is a fabulous natural playground.
We think this fungus is a purple jelly disc.
The youth hostel meals are good value and very tasty.

Rachel asked us to go out for a night time bat walk, as their year at school missed out on a lot of things during their Dovedale trip because the weather was so awful. We heard two owls talking to each other. It was very special.
Back to the River Dove for a paddle.
And back to Tissington for coffee, hot chocolate and cake.
Can't beat walking along a drainage ditch.
On the way home we found a great park at Penkridge
